What are the prohibited aggressive dog breeds?

See below. Please find a compilation of commonly recognized canine breeds regarded as potentially dangerous or aggressive, which may be restricted or barred altogether for insurance liability and legal compliance purposes:

  • Pit Bull Terrier (PBT) and American Staffordshire Terrier (AST): Due to their strong jaws, muscular build, and history of involvement in violent attacks, insurers may deny coverage or impose higher premiums for households housing PBTs/ASTs. Some states and municipalities also ban them outright.
  • Rottweiler: While not inherently vicious, Rotties were initially bred as guard dogs and may exhibit protective instincts, leading some insurers to charge elevated rates for owners.
  • German Shepherd Dog (GSD): Despite being among the most popular family pets globally, GSDs may trigger heightened insurance premiums owing to their reputation for aggression when raised improperly.
  • Doberman Pinscher: Known for their sleek looks and powerful physique, Dobermans could face denial of coverage or additional charges because they were originally designed as police and military dogs.
  • Wolf Hybrid: As a hybrid breed combining wolf and domestic dog genetics, Wolf Hyrids frequently draw scrutiny from insurers over potential unpredictability and the danger posed to humans and animals alike.
